On the second day our improvement will look like this____ and then on the third it looks like this ______. You get the message! "HOW DEEP IS YOUR WELL"
Last summer I asked one of our teammates this question, How Deep is Your Well? Let's get up for a 50 on the watch and this was at the end of practice! I got the typical responses, Why Me?, I can't do that! Whine
, or maybe the whine came first, who knows. It was the typical excuse making and feeling sorry for herself! We all have our destinations planned for this season, it could be breaking a record, swimming on Saturday Morning, getting into a relay, making it to Divisional's, making All Stars, making friends, swimming a best time. The point is that what ever your destination is your going to have to do a little
! As with most digging the first few layers seem somewhat easy much as when you jump into the
After removing the topsoil and the like you notice that the dirt starts getting a little harder to remove, and pebbles start appearing, we've started doing some swimming and kicking. Now WE are going to have to sharpen those tools if WE are going to continue to dig that well. Now WE hit the walls and it is starting to hurt and now We are going to have to move boulders which are in our way. The only way to move those boulders is to work every day on them, if WE slack off those boulders will surly come crashing in! Here are some of the boulders that We will come in contact with every day:
- Drills-Do them 100% correctly...All the time. 99.9% means they are wrong
- Walls- Streamline off every wall past the flags!
- Finish- Accelerate into the walls, and no breathing!
- Intensity- More on anything that is meant to be FAST!
- Bathrooms- Cut out the breaks, take care of it before practice!
- Water-
!! Stay Hydrated!!! If you don't it's the first sign of cramping - Legs- Use those legs a little harder into and off of walls!
- Weakness- Work on it in practice!! Don't slack off because you don't like it!
- Race- When it's time RACE, No matter who it is!
- SHOW UP -- Can't dig if you stay away from the whole!
If WE work together WE will get this well dug, but it will take all hard work from EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THE
and at some point we will see the
on the other end! Oh by the way your teammate swam a personal best in the 50 free. ARE YOU READY DOLPHINS? The Lee Graham Coaches
