"GREEN FEET WEEK"

Fathers Day 2 Happy Father's Day to all our Dolphin Fathers out there!

TIME TRAIL WRAP UP
We haven't had a chance to go over all the times from yesterday yet, but from the coaches viewpoint, all of you did a great job. For the parents information the league is using new software this season so right now they are learning how to set up the programs. We should have the the times posted sometime today.

Now that we have some times to work with, we should all be sitting down and coming up with our goals for the season.
What is a goal? For our purpose we have two types of goals, the outcome goal, and the task goals. Most swimmers we have worked with are very good at setting outcome goals; which is directed at the end result. This may be getting our best time, winning the heat, winning the event, making a relay, swimming on Saturdays. These goals are hard to control because they depend on both the ability and skill of you the swimmer and that of your opponents.

However you have more control over task goals because they depend only on your skill and ability. Task goals are what you have to do (physically and mentally) to accomplish your outcome goals. Examples of these goals include being aggressive in and out of the turns, finishing hard into the wall with a strong kick, no breathing at the finish, good breakfast, lots of H2O Bottled Water Bottled Water , proper rest , warming up properly, and coming to practice. All of these will increase your odds of achieving the outcome goal.
Where do we as coaches fit in this process. Let' pretend WE have this great big tree with alot of apples on it, and each of those apples represents our ability as a coach. It contains all of our knowledge, experience, patience, and motivational skills. Each day you come to practice we toss each of you an apple which means you have us the whole time we are there, so that we can work on your goals together. That is what you expect of us as your coaches. What if one day we walked in and say "Boy, I have had a hard night and I'm tired, so I'm just going to cut up the apple and give each of you a small piece. Would you feel cheated? Would you feel like swimming hard? Would we be working on your goals, We don't think so! Ponder that till Tuesday!
