A LOOK BACK: We now have one full week of practice under our belts, and we have seen a lot of improvement in a lot of areas. The practice attendance has been great but we still our missing teammates. Lets make a effort to get down to the
. Those of you who swam this past winter should be very proud of yourselves. The improvement that we have seen in your strokes is tremendous. Turns have been very impressive to this point!
There have been some questions that have come up and we will try to answer a few now. When is Swim School? These swimmers should be coming on Tuesday and Thursdays. Why is my swimmer not swimming with children of the same age? The practice that is planned may have several practices within it. If your swimmer needs a lot of work on techniques than we may have moved them down in order to help them in this area. What about afternoon practices once school is out? If the need is there we will offer something twice a week, but that being said we will have to share the pool with the general membership. This practice would be geared more toward are little
as space is very limited.WEEK AHEAD: We have one more week of afternoon practices and than we will make the switch to the morning's. This week we have asked several of the 12 and unders to move into the 6-7 group in a effort to create a little more room. As you see we are very crowded that first hour, but this is normal until we make the move to the mornings. Other pools have the same problem but they have to squeeze into 3-4 lanes because they only have one pool, but with our board's support we have the entire pool for 2 hours.
SATURDAY: We HAVE OUR TIME TRAILS AND WE SHOULD BE AT THE POOL BY 8:30AM, SO WE CAN START BY 9:00. Everyone should swim at least 3 strokes. If you choose to swim four and we think your ready go for it! Don't worry about being tired for a certain stroke, we are not worried about times as much right now just get in and RACE!
WEEKLY TOPIC: DETAILS
You know we come to the pool for practice 4 or 5 times a week, week after week. Showing up and having the desire to work hard each and every day are two completely different attitudes. Which one do you have? Showing up for practice is the first step of many that are required in this sport! To be successful in this sport you need to be detailed oriented. One of the first details is the area between the wall andthe flags. I would say that in races, , most swimmers have averae walls. They either cut their steamlines short or they relax going into or off of the wall. Instead of thinking of the
as an advantage that you have over all the other swimmers, because you have worked YOUR walls better than everyone else. That means during practice that we do not breathe into the finish in all strokes other than breast. We acclerate our kick into those walls. Use our fingertips in a stretch position. Drive off those turns and remember that we are faster under water off the wallls. It takes about 3 seconds for our bodies to slow down if we are in a good steamline position.Be willing to change something to get better. Right now! If you change nothing You will not improve that much. Some simple things to look, STEAMLINES, STRONG KICK, HEAD POSISTION, PULLOUTS, TURNS ON EVERY WALL., STROKE LENGTH. If we work on these areas alone we will improve as a team!!
atuations to all our seniors, 8th graders, 6th graders, and kindergartners who will be graduating this next week.
